Sweat Sunday - Hardcore Workouts for Sit-up Haters

So you want to tone your abs, waist, and core, but you hate doing sit-ups? Most people I know love to feel good in their bodies - and feeling healthy and attractive just makes you more confident in every part of your life. Everyone knows that sit-ups are great for you. They can improve core strength, balance, flexibility, posture, and reduce your risk of back pain and injury. However, if you’re anything like me, you hate sit-ups! Although I want toned abs, I find the standard sit-up routine boring and annoying, and they even at times hurt my back. That’s why we came up with this guide to a hardcore workout for your core, WITHOUT any sit-ups involved! Here are a few of our favorite sit-up substitutions. 


  • From all fours, press into your hands to lift your hips and heels as you straighten your spine.
  • Keep your pelvis in a neutral position.
  • Tuck your chin in slightly to lengthen the back of your neck as you look down.
  • Draw your shoulders up and back.
  • Hold this position for up to 1 minute.



  • From a pushup position, bring your right knee toward your chest.
  • Jump and switch legs to bring your left knee forward and your right foot back.
  • Perform this exercise quickly, but with control.
  • Continue for 30 seconds.



    • Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet near your hips.
    • Rest your arms alongside your body, palms facing down.
    • Keep your back neutral, engage your abdominal muscles, and lift your hips as high as possible.
    • Hold this position for up to 1 minute.

    Note: If you want to be able to do sit-ups but find them really challenging or even impossible, each of these exercises will help you develop the necessary core strength to complete them effectively.
